What Makes an Implant Supported Denture Different?

implant-dentures
Dentures are common solutions for patients who have experienced moderate to severe tooth loss. They fill the gap or completely replace missing teeth with lifelike prosthetic teeth, which allow patients to bite, chew, and smile confidently. However, many patients report having problems with their dentures, such as experiencing them slip or fall out, a weak bite, painful or sore gums, and the need to replace them after several years. To overcome these challenges, many patients now choose implant supported dentures. This option utilizes dental implants to support a denture and provide solutions to many of the common denture problems.   Benefits of Implant Supported Dentures
  • More secure in the mouth
  • Improved comfort while being worn
  • Enhanced speech
  • Stronger bite
  • Improved oral health
How Do Implant Supported Dentures Work? Implant supported dentures are a combination of dental implants and traditional dentures. Your doctor will place two to four dental implants into the jaw bone in areas with the most support. These implants are then able to attach to your denture after it has been retrofitted to support implants. The denture is held onto the implants often through a bar retained or ball and socket design. While the denture is attached to the implants, it will have improved security within the jaw. Most patients notice that their new denture does not slip while being worn, doesn’t pinch their gums, and allows them to chew a wider variety of foods. When patients want to take their denture out, they can simply remove it from the implants for easy cleaning and comfortable sleeping. A Simple Surgery for Lasting Results The process to get implant supported dentures is more simple than many people think. Your doctor will place the minimal number of implants needed into areas of your mouth that have the most bone support. This often means bone grafting is unnecessary. Your doctor will also offer you sedation options to help block any discomfort and ease anxiety about the procedure. And in many cases, patients are able to have their new denture fit on the implants the same day as surgery which allows them to begin using their new and improved smile right away!   Schedule an Appointment for Implant Supported Dentures Today!
